Unit 1

P1 + P2: Evidence - PPT
Production Process:
First a concept and design of the game comes in place and is the starting point of the game
production process, the concept  gets developed with time. The concept and design of the game is up to game designers, instructional designers, subject matter experts to make it look how they want it to be. This is the pre-production part of the whole process.

Second stage of the process is implementation, which is basically the execution and production of the product. Coding, effects, putting the concept/plan into action. This is up to the artists, programmers and technical directors to make the product best to their ability, and realising the concept. This is the production part of the whole process. Claude Langlais was the Technical Director for the first Assassin's Creed game. The game engine, which is externally marketed as Anvil(next) but is called Scimitar internally, for Assassin's Creed is coded mainly in C++.

The third stage of the process is testing and deployment. The product is finished and is ready to be tested by beta testers, prof. testers and educational testing happens. It is up to the sales marketing people to distribute the product into the market.

Relationship between purpose, form, content and meaning and how they all link:

The product is a Ubisoft game - Assassin's Creed series is in the form of 9 games with a long story that is passed on through each game throughout the series. The game is in colour and 3D style graphics with incredible scenery.

The purpose of the game series is to keep the consumers entertained and interested in the game. Also, to show how the characters develop throughout the game series in their adventures. For the company (Ubisoft), the obvious reason and their purpose is to make money and a profit from their product. The iconography would be the classic assassin armour and weapons, as well as the hoodies that they are known for.

In each of the assassin's creed games the main character is always an assassin and a reincarnation of the previous assassin. You play as the main character follow his story, journeys and adventures throughout the game series. There are a number of characters that are an enigma when you first meet them, they are revealed as you play the game, learning about the characters and finding out who the mysterious characters are. Conventions of the genre are things such as armour, weapons and fighting that relate to other action/open world genre games. This relates to the purpose of the game (entertainment), showing how characters develop which is entertaining. There is connotation in each of the games at the end of each characters journeys which gives the audience a hint of how the next game could begin, therefore they are left wondering about it.

The game leaves the audience with mixed feelings because it shows history and makes the audience wonder if they are lucky or not to be living in the modern century as a pose to living in the past. A number of aspects can change their view on this subject, such as the amount of people being killed on streets in older times, sometimes for no reason at all, might put them off. Although this depends on the audience type, maybe they are into the style of the 16th century and would not mind the 'fighting to stay alive' type of lifestyle. The style of clothing that people wore is a another aspect that could influence the audiences view on the past world, armour and dresses for example were worn as casual clothes, this also relates to the purpose of the game. 'I wish i lived in the past' - are you so sure?

The message of the game is complicated as the AC series has many messages to pass/convey to the audience. One of them is to show that the assassin's were good people and not killers, that they served good, although this is more about the purpose of the game than the message it is still considered as a message because there is proof that there were real life assassin's in the past. Another message/point that AC is trying to convey is how to separate the good people from the bad and that not all people are what they seem this relates to the meaning.

There is plenty of dialogue throughout the series, from main characters to merchants in shops and other NPCs (Non-player characters). Ezio (Main character in 3 games) speaks in a very respectable tone and manner with an Italian accent, which makes the audience feel like he is trustworthy and knows exactly what to do/what he is doing. The way a character speaks and the things he/she says influences the audience, this helps them to choose if to trust the character or not, also helps them identify if the character is a villain or a hero, although it is not always so easy to figure out.

The meaning of assassin's creed is intriguing. The 'Creed' is something all the Assassins stand by through good and bad,  prosperity and adversity. It's what they live by and for.
"Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
It is an observation of the nature of reality. To say, 'nothing is true', is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say, 'everything is permitted', is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic.

P3: AC Target Audience - Bert / Assassin's Creed Conventions of genre

P4: Interview (Sunset Overdrive)
P4: Assassins Creed - (AC 1 Advert/Trailer)

I decided to analyse the first ever assassins creed trailer as it is the original and where the whole franchise began.

Advertising
The game has been advertised in a number of ways including in the form of  TV adverts/trailers,     posters, websites and magazines, therefore the product has had a huge success in sales. The adverts for the game are usually placed in a very visible part of the media (websites, banners) this is because the game has released many series and is very well known in the industry/has been around for a long time and a lot is expected from it by the media and audience. The banners on websites are mostly an animation or a video trailer of the game. The audience gets hooked on the advertising because it is very visible and the word about the game gets spread quick, the adverts, banners and animations take you straight into the action and are entertaining.

Distribution
The distribution of products at Ubisoft is the job of the marketing employees/professionals, it is up to them to find out what their audience and consumers are/is in-depth to target their products as accurately as possible for a specific audience or a wide range audience. Ubisoft has won the 'game marketing company of the year' last year. They reach their audience by finding out what they like and what would attract them to a Ubisoft product, Ubisoft will do anything to distribute their product in the best possible way, including traditional advertising as well as live streaming on spectator platforms like Twitch because of the number of fans of games that use the website. Also, Ubisoft likes to rely on user-generated content sites such as Twitter or Facebook because of their popularity around the world, this helps them 'tell their story' and spread their content around the world. Their biggest aim is to get people talking about their products, they feel like that is the way to reach a wide audience. There are a number of ways that Ubisoft's games get recognised around the world, from people posting videos on youtube to adverts on TV, any way it is Ubisoft seem to be the masters of marketing in the industry. The game's main and most popular format is CD, sold only on these specific platforms - PC, Xbox, Wii U and Playstation which can be bought in shops such as 'Game' or 'Gamestop' and other shops, including grocery stores such as Tesco. The game is also distributed via 'Steam' which is a digital game store where games can be downloaded and stored.

Trailer
The trailer advert reaches its audience by using mostly dark lighting and quick pace action shots of fights to instantly grab the audiences attention and hook them with the gameplay/imagery that for sure meets the standards of the game, therefore it does not disappoint the audience. The music and sound in the trailer that i analysed is very intense throughout, although the trailer begins with a knight shouting to a crowd of people, as soon as he is assassinated the fast pace intense music comes in with a chase scene. There is a lot of sound effects used in the trailer, such as an eagle screech or whistle and people shouting in the background throughout; blade slicing armour sounds in the fight scenes. The intense music is stopped by a church bell sound as the assassin stops running and seems surrounded by soldiers, suddenly, a door behind him opens with a screech and a group of elderly people dressed similar to the assassin (Altair) walk out the door. The assassin disappears in the crowd and the soldiers are left confused as the camera angle cuts to an eagle or bird eye view following the eagles view on the city with zooming sound effects. The trailer is made this way to show how open-world the AC game is, how much action it has in it and to give a sense of enigma to make the audience want to find out more about the story/character and details of the game, of course this makes them want to buy the game.
