Game Unit

My gaming experience with the following:
1. Donkey Kong
2. Proteus

1. I enjoy arcade and platform games but Donkey Kong for me wasn't the best platform game I've played. I enjoyed the game to a certain extent, jumping, smashing, climbing and avoiding obstacles is fun, although in Donkey Kong everything seems to be much more difficult, the slightest bit of a barrel could touch you and you will have to start over again. Since I'm not a patient person this wasn't the game for me as I couldn't even get past the second level, which is quiet frustrating. It's hard to believe that people reached a score of a million or more. I felt frustrated but also persistent just because I wanted to get past my high score.

2. Proteus suited me much better than Donkey Kong since it's an open world game, I could make the decisions where I went and what I got up to as a pose to Donkey Kong where you only have one objective and you must stick to it to complete the game. I enjoyed Proteus, interesting sounds and visuals such as Meteor showers across the sky, day/night cycle and weather and season change. It was hard to just stop playing when you play for 30 minutes or so, I got really into it and wanted to find out more about the world or the Island that I'm on. I felt relaxed and curious when playing the game.

4 STAGES OF VIDEO GAME PRODUCTION

Manufacture: The manufacturer is the company that makes the hardware for games to be produced. A few examples of manufacturers are Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Apple. Sony makes PlayStation, Apple makes iPhone and Microsoft makes Xbox.

Development: The developers are the company that make and develop the software. They are the people that make the actual game to be played on hardware. A couple of examples of developers are Electronic Arts, Infinity Ward, Naughty Dog and Ubisoft.

Publishing: The publishers are the company that handles the marketing and release of the game by putting it onto discs, distributes the game across markets, and gets the returns on it’s sales. The publishers also design the advertising of the game. Examples of these could be Ubisoft, Electronic arts and SEGA.

Retail: The retailers are the people who sell the actual game to the  market, either through supermarkets such as Gamestop and CEX or online digital distribution platforms such as Steam and PSN (Playstation Network).

1st Party Games: A first party game is a game that is Manufactured, Developed and Published by a single company. A good example of a first party game could be ‘The Last of Us’ which was manufactured and published by Sony, although Naughty Dog developed the game but they are owned by Sony, which means that Sony have developed it.

2nd Party Games: A second party game is when one company works on two stages of the production process and a second company works on one stage. An example of a second party game could be ‘Spyro’ where Sony published and manufactured the game and Insomniac Games developed it.

3rd Party Games: A third party game is when three different companies work on a game together. One company focuses on manufacture, second company works on development and the third company works on publishing the game. An example of a third party game could be 'Sonic Lost World' where SEGA published the game, Dimps developed the game and Sonic Team manufactured it.
